HOW AN INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE CHANGED MY LIFE AND HELPED ME MANIFEST MY WAY OUT OF A JOB (BUT WITH BIGš¤)
And it can change your life too!
Hello, my new friend!
Iām so glad that you found me! I'm Laura.
Your (Un)Self-Help Life Coach., and founder of The Joyful Uprising.
Let me guess. Youāre here because you...
No shame there. That means you passed the first test.š
Youāre my kind of personā¦curious and open to possibility.
Iām also taking a wild guess that this is you right now?

You canāt remember the last time you truly felt joy or happiness
You are the president of Doers Anonymousācleaning up the mess, working late, taking on another project even though youāre maxed out.
Youāve got a million one things on your to-do list, but the one ājust for youā that you reluctantly added keeps getting moved to the bottom.

You reach for the chocolate, cocktail, or junk food whenever you need a quick hit of comfort and consistency
Youāve accomplished a lot, but none of it really matters to you or even resonates anymore because it doesnāt feel authentic to who you are.
Now I want to let you in on a little secret..ā¦
YOU ARE NOT ALONE, MY FRIEND
There are so many high-achieving ladies that feel the same way,
with a multitude of different versions of the same story of how they got stuck
in this successful but dissatisfied life,
(and can't seem to budge, no matter what they try.)

And I'm here to show you that it doesn't have to stay that way...
.I have a confession to make...growing up I was the textbook picture of the nice, good girl. I did as I was told., and as I was expected.
Teenage years: Valedictorian. NEVER in trouble. Waited until marriage to have sex. Another story for another timeš¤¦āāļø
My 20's: I rebelled for a few years post-college (and messy divorce #1) where I finally had enough, but that didn't turn out well...
So in my 30's, back to doing as expected, but now I added another role to my list: a young single mom of 2 daughters.
However, no matter how hard I tried to keep up the ānice girlā act, I never felt fully accepted, seen, or satisfied.
You seeā¦I wasnāt just a nice, good girl.
I was also a perfectionist, people-pleaser, and always sought approval for my choices, regardless of what I actually wanted.
Thankfully, as I got my first corporate job and moved past the trauma of my poor choices, I discovered something.
The "doing as I was told and expected" helped me get ahead here, just as it did in school.
That realization served me well with a stable-ish, fulfilling-ish job that paid well enough to support my small family...until it didn't.
My first aha moment...
After years of settling on mediocre jobs & relationships that were going NOWHERE fast, I knew it was time for a change.
I started to doubt everything.
I knew there had to be a way to finally feel some sense of satisfaction in my life, but I had no idea where to start.
Thatās when I hired my first coach and started my self-discovery journey (and my journey to become a life coach!š)
It opened my world up to new possibilities in a way Iād never experienced before.
In working together, I discovered this newerādare I say rebelliousāversion of myself that was finally ready to do life differently.
I finally believed that it was ok to stop playing the 'good girl' and in that shift, the world got so much BRIGHTER and BETTER.
I rediscovered who Laura was.
Not the mom. The employee. The girlfriend.
JUST ME.
What I Learned from
My Self-Discovery Journey

When I slowed down and started
connecting with myself. I was able to
discover 3 things (from my )
so I could enjoy life more:

How I could feel more like me
again.
What I really wanted and
needed (not what everyone
else wanted for me).
What was holding me back
(hint.it was me!)

When I finally faced my internal world (wants, needs, habits, feelings).
and gave myself permission to have what I wanted, I got the confidence to ask for those needs to be met (or
meet them myself!)

Sadly. like so many of the IG morning routines we stop and start_it wasn't
sustainable.
Once I learned these things, I started saying YES to what made me feel good as much as possible. Because for once in a very long time...I was giving myself PERMISSION to.
And GIRL, it felt so freakin' LIBERATING!!
HIGHLIGHT REEL

I made one HUGE misstep.
(Luckily my life-changing 'aha moment was just around the corner).
As I learned more about myself and tried new things, I wanted perfection and the end result (happiness) right away.
When I messed up, as humans do, this is what happened, every.damn.time.
Beat myself up with a ton of āI can do betterāsā, feel shi*ty & push myself harder,
get exhausted and give up before it even had a chance to work.
Go back to my normal routine & habits until the next time I got sick of my life,
Start searching for another āone size fits allā solution that wouldn't work any better than the one before.
Then the next fix (email course, exercise routine, self-help book) would make me feel the same
HOPE, ANTICIPATION, and EXCITEMENT.
RINSE AND REPEAT.
The "I'll Be Happy When" emotional rollercoaster was making me feel

All the self-help was actually making it worse?! WHAT THE HELL?
I didn't know why it kept happening,
but I knew there had to be a way out....
AND that way out came in the unlikeliest of places.
How an Inspirational Quote
Changed my Life
I learned it was NOT sustainable because I didn't
change HOW I was doing these new things! š¤¦āāļø

Happiness
is when....
What you think...
What you say...
What you do...
harmony
are in
-Mahatma Gandhi

My BIG LIFE-CHANGING 'aha moment'...
What I had been taught to believe about Happiness was in fact....NOT TRUE.
It was not:
ā Living a 'perfect' life the way everyone expects you to.
āNot letting myself feel the 'sticky emotions' and instead trying to be calm and happy all the time.
āBeating myself up for not achieving something that I thought might bring me happiness!
While it was huge for me to be working towards the WHAT and WHY that made me feel like a kid in a candy store, believing this definition of Happiness was blocking me from fully enjoying the awesomeness I'd been experiencing.
The first part of my self-discovery journey helped me build my confidence and be more myself, but I wasn't changing the pushing, struggling, and sh*tty self-talk that was causing the "I'll Be Happy When" cycle.
The part I was missing was the Integration of both my inner and outer world.
THIS was when I acknowledged how much our inner world affects our outer one.
We can try to do things differently as much as we want, but the only way the change will truly stick is when we evolve how we believe, and acknowledge how we are now is NOT how we'll always be
HOW it changed my life
I started to accept Iām only human, not perfect, and am always learning, and started treating myself better....ā¦like my best friend, not like the school bully.
Once I shifted this key belief (and practiced it A LOT), I finally had more direction and peace.
I became more aware of which thoughts and actions were making me feel so shi*ty, so I could replace them with how I wanted to feel instead.
Ahhh heavenly relief!
I learned how I could be nicer to myself as I tried those new things.
I felt less stressed out, more calm and confident in my decision-making, and was able to see the good in my life (and myself).
I felt like I was living, probably for the first time, instead of just waking up each day and going through the motions on autopilot. (ex-corporate zombie here...šāāļønice to meet you!)

That's when the šŖmagic started
to happen in my life.
Manifested myself of out of my well-paid (but super stressful) corporate job with $60k in the bank and a $100k+ house sale to fund my first year with less stress.
Allowed myself to face the unknown of FT entrepreneurship during covid, with 2 teenagers at home
Created a life plan with my amazing partner to purchase our family home by mid-2023 (with 4 kids and a zillion animals)
Continued healing process from mine and my daughter's mental struggles
Now
I finally learned how to BE HAPPY nnnow...
even in the messy middle.

And it was the missing piece in my framework, so that I could help other women like you do the same.
With this change, I was able to weave that magic into my client sessions and take them from not only 'good results' to holistic, transformational results that:
The biggest change: They are now able to ENJOY the integration process more, and have more fun as they make bold changes to improve their lives.

That's What She Said...
She hit all parts of me.
Before working with Laura, I was struggling to separate my sense of worth from the (very normal) challenge I was facing. She reminded me that I'm a superhero, and how valuable I am, I felt like that superhero and it carried over into how I showed up afterward! I even walked away with a specific approach, with verbatim questions to ask, as I decide how to address my challenge.
I just adore how kind Laura is! Her perspective consistently addresses my whole self, brain and spirit, and all the parts in between. And bonus..every conversation I've had with Laura has consistently validated that I can trust myself!
Jean H.
I would follow Laura's wisdom into battle.
I had been struggling to figure out how to keep moving forward without giving in to my normal patterns OR how to allow myself to mess up (without giving up) as I took the next step. Little did I know that I've been the one disqualifying myself -from the big picture dreams that feel so far away or even letting myself picture it.
I love the warmth and enthusiasm she brings. She offers a kind of support, care, and attention that I otherwise only experience in my oldest, deepest friendships. It felt safe to bring up any topic, and that made it easier for me to feel like I was making progress integrating rather than compartmentalizing.
I LOVE how knowledgeable and familiar Laura is with various tools. As a fellow assessment-lover, it was so refreshing to find cool new perspectives from the ones she suggested. It's so rare to have someone artfully weave the functionality of those assessments together. You can hand someone a bunch of kitchen utensils, but that does not a chef make. Laura has a gift. Her approach is well-rounded and draws from multiple domains, which meant I hung up our call with both my head and heart feeling good.
One of the hardest things in allowing someone to speak into your life ( therapist, doctor, coach, friend, boss, mentor - anyone) is deciding whether or not their character/values/results beliefs align with your desires in a way that you are willing to actually do the work.

I confidently made a decision! Lauraās coaching practices allowed me to take a deeper look into why I was so hesitant to leap out of a job I no longer wanted. Even her tone of voice was comforting and thought-provoking as I learned what I was afraid of and how to think about my fears as positives rather than negatives. With her help, I confidently made a decision to stay at that job, but found other things outside of work that made my overall like more enjoyable!

Coaching with Laura allowed me to "do the work", but with someone behind me as I made the changes. The weekly sessions, reading material, and exercises she provided were so helpful. But beyond that, whenever she came across a new article or another book that played into our discussions, sheād immediately send me the info to read if I chose to do soā¦which I always did. I truly felt like I had a 24/7 coach!
Alex L.
During my time with Laura, not only did I leave a job I hated and find a new job that would challenge me, but I felt safe, supported, and challenged as we created an action plan to hit both my short and long-term goals. She was my 24/7 accountability partner to keep me focused when I wanted to just āget there alreadyā. Now even though Iām not exactly where I want to be yet, I know I have a plan and am enjoying life along the way!
